What is a Participle and why is mine Dangling?

April 15, 2007

Have you ever read something that made you stop and say to yourself, “what the heck does that mean?” I know I have and usually it’s because someone has destroyed an otherwise coherent sentence with a dangling participle or a misplaced modifier. Read the rest of this entry »

When You are Comparing Something, Then You Use Than

April 13, 2007

What? I know it can be confusing – figuring out when to use than instead of then. In fact, there are many confusing words in the English language. Some sound the same, but are spelled differently and mean different things. Some don’t sound the same, are spelled the same but mean something different. Mastering the English language is a challenge. Don’t worry about mastering the language, just make sure you’re using the right words when you’re writing and you’ll be fine. Landing Clients – It’s all in the Bait

April 11, 2007

A couple months ago, I told my husband I was going to revamp my business by defining a niche and a target market. My niche is writing. My target market – well, at the time, it was anyone or anything that needed writing or editing services. “Don’t you think you’ll be limiting yourself by concentrating JUST on writing?” he asked me with obvious concern. “No, not at all” I quickly responded. He looked at me puzzled. My husband loves stories so I knew a fishing analogy would help him see the light. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Write an e-Book that Generates Cash

April 9, 2007

So you’re going to write an e-Book. Good for you! It’s a great way to generate passive income and to establish yourself as an expert in your field. Make sure you get to know your reader before you start writing. Find out what they need or what they want; the problems they face. The style of your writing as well as the tone and length will depend on your reader. Do a little research and determine your reader’s age range, gender, interests, socio-economic group and whether or not they’re computer literate. The more you know about your reader, the easier it is to reach them. The original Chicken Soup series sold many more copies when they began addressing specific segments of the market – for the pet lover’s soul, the Veteran’s soul and the gardener’s soul to name just a few. April 1, 2007

So Monday is the day Sharon visits my blog. I have to say I’m kind of nervous. In the same way I guess as a child waiting for Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy. I’ll know she’ll come. I don’t know when though. We might cross paths. We might not. All I know is I’m excited to be a part of this interesting adventure. So, we had to include five questions with our request for Sharon to visit our blogs. Here are my questions – witty as they may be: Read the rest of this entry »

How to Make Money Writing and Selling e-Books

April 1, 2007

Writing and selling e-Books are a great way to generate passive income and establish yourself as an expert in your field. You may be thinking that you can’t write an e-Book for one reason or another or that the process of writing and selling is just too overwhelming. While it’s true it is a big undertaking, it is not impossible.

Many successful infopreneurs generate a great deal of passive income selling information online. The most obvious advantage of being an infopreneur is the low overhead and high earning potential. Once you’ve written an e-Book, tele-seminar, e-course or other information product, it can be sold over and over again. It is even better than selling a traditional book because you do not have to print anything and you don’t have to jump through publisher hoops. The costs to produce a piece of information are the same whether you are selling to one person or to millions. Read the rest of this entry »

10 Tips to Ensure Your Press Release is Published

April 1, 2007

The press release was first introduced in 1906 by Ivy Lee, who is often referred to as the first real public relations practitioner. At that time, Lee’s agency was working with the Pennsylvania Railroad, which had just fallen victim to a tragic accident. Ivy Lee convinced the company to issue the first press release to journalists, before other versions of the story got out. He used a press release to invite journalists and photographers to the scene and provided their transportation.
Since that time, the press release has become the most common way of informing the press of an event or action that will happen or has happened or is in progress. Press releases used to be primarily faxed to news rooms, but more and more they accept e-mail press releases, so you may be able to send it either way. After you send the press release, it is very important to call and follow-up. Read the rest of this entry »
